Carmen Antweiler, Dipl.-Psych., C. Psych. Associate
Carmen Antweiler received her degree in clinical psychology from the University of Hamburg, Germany. She is registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario in the areas of Clinical, Rehabilitation, and Counselling Psychology. She provides assessment and psychological treatment to adults experiencing a range of psychological concerns, including: anxiety, depression, postpartum depression, trauma, grief and loss, major life transitions, relationship difficulties, personal growth, identity and self-esteem issues, chronic pain, coping with chronic illness and injury, and substance use issues.
Ms. Antweiler’s approach to therapy is client-centred and collaborative with a warm, accepting and compassionate style. She perceives the therapeutic relationship as a mutual and cooperative process and her therapeutic orientation is primarily experiential and trauma and attachment informed. She incorporates elements from emotion-focused, gestalt, interpersonal, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioural therapy to provide a tailored, holistic approach to meet client needs. She has a deep appreciation for the mind-body connection and incorporates mindfulness and relaxation techniques as well as a somatic focus into her work. She is engaged in ongoing professional development in Somatic Experiencing.
Ms. Antweiler has more than fifteen years experience in the treatment of individuals with a wide range of psychological issues. She worked in a treatment center for substance using women in Germany for ten years and in private practice in Ottawa with a focus on working with individuals who were involved in motor vehicle accidents and coping with health issues, chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety, depression and major losses in their lives.
